Wojt enjoys a wire-to-wire victory

For the men, as expected, former swimmer Lukasz Wojt was the first to get out of the water in 21:43. Last year's winner, Manuel Küng, followed the German 1:50 later. Co-favorite Horst Reichel was third onto the bike ahead of Holland's Bad Diederen.

Wojt powered clear of the rest of the field, posting the day's fastest bike split (2:06:32) to lead Belgium's Stenn Goetstouwers by 5:17 into T2. Diederen and Goetsouwers ran together through the first half of the run before Diederen was able to break clear.

Wojt hung on for the win in 3:49:05, with Diederen making up some ground to finish second in 3:51:53. Rounding out the podium was Goeststouwers.

Simmonds dominates

Anna-Lena Pohl, a former swimmer, led the way out of the Moselle in 25:41, with Switzerland's Imogen Simmonds right with her into T1. Simmonds quickly took control of the race, though, and had a huge lead of 7:29 over Germany's Svenja Thoes by the 60 km point of the ride. By the end of the ride Simmonds was 8:13 up on Thoes and was never challenged, finishing the race in 4:11:30. Thoes took second, posting the day's fastest run split of 1:22:11, but was still 7:20 back at the finish line. Third went to Belgian Alexandra Tondeur.
