Who's going to Kona?

Last weekend saw the final full-distance Kona qualifying races. Based on the current standings, here's what the start lists will likely look like when the canon goes off at Kailua pier.

After last weekend's races in Kalmar, Copenhagen and Mont-Tremblant, the full-distance qualifiers for this year's Ironman World Championship are done. Now the athletes will focus their energy on race day - October 14.

Most of the slots have already been taken, accepted and confirmed. There are still a few question marks for some of the athletes (as to whether they are planning to compete in Kona) including Marino Vanhoenacker, Michael Weiss, Harry Wiltshire, Denis Chevrot, Kaito Tohara and Carloz Lopez. Chris McDonald, Eneko Llanos and Fredrik Croneborg are among the first three men (marked with a * in the table) who will move up in the rankings to take a spot - although it's not certain they want to head to Kona this year. (Ed. note: Vanhoenacker seemed to imply that Kona was not in his plans after his win in Mont-Tremblant.)

The women's start list

While in theory Rachel Joyce's spot for Kona remains "unconfirmed" she's definitely Kona bound after her win in Mont-Tremblant on the weekend, That leaves Jocelyn McCauley and Tine Holst as two unconfirmed athletes. Meredith Kessler has qualified, but is pregnant, so she will certainly not accept her slot, which means Jeanne Collonge will for sure move into the qualifying list. If there are other athletes who don't take their slots Eva Wutti and Danielle Mack will  move forward with 3,820 points each.
