Sebastian Kienle arrived at Challenge Heilbronn as the favorite and lived up to that billing, taking the win a couple of weeks after his big battle with Lionel Sanders at "The Championship."

Daniela Sämmler successfully defended her title thanks to a wire to wire win punctuated by a stellar bike ride that put her well clear of her competition.

Kienle wins it on the run

After the 1.9-km swim, Kienle found himself trailing swim-leader Markus Rolli by almost two minutes. The fastest bike split of the day got Kienle into T2 along side countryman Andi Böcherer. Out on the run course Kienle used the second-fastest time of the day to (1:12:03) to gain his 59-second margin. Kienle took the day in 3:49:59. Second went to Böcherer, while rounding out the podium was Switzerland's Sven Riederer.

By far the fastest half-marathon split of the day came from the eventual fouth-place finisher, Jesse Thomas (USA), who ran 1:08:18, which got him to within 2:03 of Kienle.

Her 2:27:43 bike split was almost five minutes faster than her closest pursuer Yvonne Van Vlerken. Out on the run Sämmler extended the lead even more, coming home in 4:21:44.
