Many triathlon fans had been anxiously anticipating the rematch of last year's exciting duel between Germany's Olympic and two-time Ironman world champion Jan Frodeno and Canadian Lionel Sanders at Ironman 70.3 Oceanside on April 6. It would have been a first test for both at this early time of the season.

For Frodeno, however, the race is a few weeks early. The 37-year-old, along with his coach Dan Lorang, decided to postpone the first competition of the year, according to the Frodeno camp. They say that he is not injured and have not made any indication of an alternative race in Frodeno's plans at this point. Right now the next race on Frodeno's schedule appears to be an iconic event in Germany, the Buschhütten triathlon on May 5.
