The International Triathlon Union will host five Mixed Team Relay events as part of its qualifying series for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. On July 7, 2019 triathlon fans will once again focus on Hamburg's Rathausmarkt as some of the best triathletes in the world take part in the ITU Mixed Relay World Championship, which was announced at this year's World Triathlon Series Grand Final in Australia's Gold Coast.

The race has a long tradition in Hamburg (this will be the sixth year in a row the city has hosted the event) and is traditionally one of the most exciting races on the ITU calendar. Spectators are treated to an exciting race that features two men and two women from each nation take turns racing a short triathlon consisting of a 300 m swim, an eight km bike and a two km run.

The team relay will be part of the Olympic program for the first time in Tokyo in 2020, so the Hamburg race organizers expect another large crowd on hand to watch next year's race - last year there were 250,000 people on hand to watch the race.
