Flora Duffy (BER) continued her impressive 2017 season with a dominating performance that saw her cross the line in 1:58:38, almost a minute ahead of Katie Zaferes. Jessica Learmonth (GBR) rounded out the podium.
Aggressive from the gun
Duffy typically uses a dominating bike peformance to set up her wins, but in Rotterdam her aggressive tactics began from the start horn. Duffy, Zaferes and Learmonth opened up a 30-second gap on the rest of the field in the water and continued to pull away on the bike. By the end of the second of seven loops on the bike they enjoyed a 1:30 lead on the rest of the field.
Duffy dominates on the run, too
After working on her running over the off season, Duffy proved that she's starting to master the third leg of the race thanks to the day's fastest run. Her impressive run got her to the line 55-seconds ahead of Zaferes, who crossed the line in 1:59:34. Learmonth was able to hang on for the third spot on the podium in 2:00:57.
Another world title
Duffy's sixth win of the WTS season ensured she defended her world title, while Ashleigh Gentle (AUS) managed to run her way to sixth, which got her the second spot on the WTS championship podium, while Zaferes finished third.
