Andreas Dreitz (GER) was more than impressive at the inaugural Ironman Italy Emilia Romagna, posting an 8:03 winning time and dominating on the bike to prove his potential over the full distance. Lucy Gossage (GBR) and Tine Deckers (BEL) had a close battle in the women's race, but Gossage's quicker bike split proved to be the difference.

Blasting the bike

Dreitz trailed by about a minute after the swim behind Jeremy Jurkiewicz (FRA), Ivan Risti (ITA) and Niclas Bock. It didn't take the German long, though, to move to the front and blast away from the rest of the field on the flat, slightly long (183) bike course, coming into T2 with a 14-minute lead.

Dreitz didn't slow much on the run, either, and easily stayed clear during the marathon to take the men's title. Denmark's Jens Petersen-Bach quickly moved into second place on the run and stayed there, while Croatia's Andrej Vistica rounded out the podium.

Gossage and Deckers dominate

The first five women came out of the water within 16 seconds of each other before Tine Deckers (BEL) and Lucy Gossage (GBR) took off on the rest of the field. Gossage hit T2 with a six-minute lead on Deckers, who also had a six-minute lead on Germany's Carolin Lehrieder.

Gossage has way too many full-distance titles to her credit to squander a lead while Deckers tried to close the gap she couldn't make a dent in the Brit's lead. Gossage posted an impressive 9:06:39 winning time, which put her almost seven minutes up on Deckers. Marta Bernardi (ITA) took the final spot on the podium.
