Germany's Andreas Böcherer successfully defended his Ironman 70.3 Pays d'Aix title, taking his third title at the event in Provence. Just a week after his runner-up finish at the  for the third time. Only a week after his second place in the short distance Buschhütten Triathlon, Böcherer showed that he's in strong early-season form. Böcherer was fifth out of the water, 55 seconds behind, before powering through the bike. Using the fastest bike time of the day (2:09:52), he built a comfortable lead over his two German pursuers, Marcus Herbst and Andreas Dreitz, who were 3:43 and 4:16 behind their countryman.

On the run Böcherer maintained his lead to the line thanks to a 1:12:59 run split, taking the win in 3:52:16. There were some fireworks behind, though as former short distance racer and the winner of this year's Ironman 70.3 Dubai event, Adam Bowden (GBR), flew through the run in 1:08:41, the days fastest run split, to move himself to second (3:53:28), just 1:12 behind Böcherer. Dreitz took a sprint over Herbst for the final spot on the podium - his 3:56:37 finishing time got him to the line three-seconds ahead of Herbst, who moved up a spot from his fifth-place finish last year.
