In one of his first races of the 2018 season, Alistair Brownlee is expected to complete at Ironman 70.3 Dubai on February 2. After ending last year early due to hip surgery just before the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Chattanooga, the British star will take on a tough field in Dubai. In addition to Brownlee, Terenzo Bozzone (NZL), Nicholas Kastelein (AUS), Patrik Nilsson (SWE), Ronnie Schildknecht (SUI) and Maurice Clavel (GER) are just a few of the more experienced middle-distance athletes who are expected to be in the hunt for a podium finish.
Holly Lawrence (GBR) leads the women's field, but will also face some tough competition. Anne Haug (GER) is moving to longer distances and plans to compete in a full-distance race some time this year. Others to watch include Alicia Kaye (USA), a multiple 70.3 champion with a strong swim/ bike combo and Ellie Salthouse (AUS), who is coming off a runner-up finish from Pucon.
