Richard Murray is back to defend the men's title while Flora Duffy will arrive in the Bahamas as the prohibitive women's favorite at the Island House Triathlon on the weekend.

Duffy has been on fire this year, taking all but one of the WTS races she entered, successfully defended her ITU world championship and took her fourth straight Xterra world championship, too. Last year the Bermudan was second to Gwen Jorgensen (USA) at this event, but this year Jorgensen has both recently had a baby and also announced she's off to become a marathon runner.

There will certainly be lots of women who will keep Duffy honest come race day, including the likes of ITU racers Ashleigh Gentle, Sarah True and Katie Zaferes, but it would seem that this is the Duffy's race to lose. There are a number of full-distance specialists in the field (Super-mom Rachel Joyce, Sarah Crowley, Alicia Kay and Leanda Cave to name a few)  who will no-doubt suffer with the speed and handling skills required to negotiate around the tight Highbourne Cay course, but they've all had ITU race experience so should be in the mix for at least some of the racing, especially by the third of the three races that take place over two days on the small island.

Can Murray make it two in a row?

Last year's men's champ Richard Murray is back, but he'll have some very stiff competition as well. Javier Gomez is normally a name that you'd put in the running for this title, but he's likely getting himself as ready as possible for the final leg of the Triple Crown in Bahrain next weekend, where a win would earn the Spaniard a cool million dollars. Two-time ITU world champion Mario Mola is on the list, though, so he'll certainly be one to watch.

There are a number of full-distance racers on hand this year's race on the men's side, too, which adds another interesting flavor for the men's race. The likes of Sebastian Kienle,  Terenzo Bozzone, Josh Amberger, Ben Hoffman will, like the women, struggle to keep up with the ITU speedsters, but if they can stay close they could become more of a factor as the weekend progresses.

(Note: We are pretty sure Tim Don is not going to be competing this weekend.)
