Katie Zaferes (USA) was consistent through all three of the stages of the Triple Mix event at the Super League Triathlon in Jersey, pulling clear of Switzerland's Olympic gold and silver medalist Nicola Spirig (who is mounting quite the comeback after giving birth to her second child earlier this year). Summer Cook (USA) rounded out the podium.
Claire Michel (BEL) took the first swim (300 m)/ bike (5 km)/ run (2 km) leg of the Triple Mix format, finishing ahead of Spirig and Zaferes with Cook finishing a close fourth. Zaferes quickly moved to the front in the second leg of the race (run/ bike/ swim) that went just 10-minutes after the finish of the first race. She was joined by Spirig, Cook and Michel on the run, but once on the bike it was Spirig who pulled clear. Zaferes managed to get back onto Spirig's wheel during the bike and then moved ahead into the transition. The American was then able to stay ahead during the swim. Zaferes and Spirig were so far ahead by the end of the second event that nine women were eliminated thanks to the 90-second rule.
The third race consisted of a bike/ swim/ run race that saw the two leaders take turns at the front on the bike, leaving the rest of the field to fight for third. Zaferes easily pulled away from the Swiss super-mom on the run to take the day, while Cook won the battle for the final spot on the podium.
