After a year of consistent racing on the WTS circuit, which she led for part of the season, it comes as no surprise that putting two days of hard racing together, including three short races on each day, would be right up Katie Zaferes' alley.
And it was. The American took yesteday's Triple Mix and solidified her hold on the top prize for the weekend with another convincing win in today's Eliminator race at the Super League Triathlon in Jersey.
The day's racing included three short triathlons consisting of a 300 m swim, 5 km bike and a 2 km run. After the first race all but 15 of the field were eliminated, with another five being dropped for the final race.
Brits Jodie Stimpson and Sophie Coldwell finished clear in the first race, while Stimpson took the second with Nicola Spirig (SUI) and Zaferes finishing second and third.
In the final race Zaferes charged to the front early in the run and never looked back. Spirig, who is coming back to racing after the birth of her second child just a few months ago, seemed on track for another runner-up finish, but was upstaged by American Summer Cook, who managed to surge ahead of the Olympic gold (2012) and silver (2016) medalist to take second and claim that spot in the overall standings, too. Spirig's third place in the Eliminator got her third overall in the final standings.
