It's hardly a surprise that Ironman would be jumping at the opportunity to add the Vitoria-Gasteiz triathlon to it's list of races.
The race routinely attracts nearly 2,000 participants from all over the world for the half- and full-distance races. The crowds are renowned to be big, loud and supportive and the course is spectactular - set in the provincial park of Landa, athletes enjoy the beautiful Alava scenery for the swim and cycle legs and then do a run through Vitoria, named “European Green Capital” in 2012. The race has held a world championship, a European championship, two Spanish championships and two Spanish Cups over the last decade.
Next year's Ironman Vitoria-Gasteiz will take place on July 14, 2019.
"IRONMAN has focused on us for its excellent organization, for our beautiful Alava landscapes and for the atmosphere that is experienced in the city during those days," says Eduardo Martínez, Director of Triathlon Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Spain has become quite a hot bed for Ironman racing these days - Vitora-Gasteiz joins 70.3 and Ironman events in Barcelona, Mallorca, Marbella and Lanzarote, along with running events owned by Ironman in Madrid.
