Sarah Piampiano (USA) biked and ran her way to the women's title, a win that was even more convincing after Canada's Kirsty Jahn was disqualified, which negated her runner-up finish in the race. France's Cyril Viennot turned out to be the fastest runner from a chase group of six, taking the men's race thanks to a speedy 1:14:33 run that kept him clear of Andy Potts (USA).

Viennot runs clear

It was hardly a surprise to see Andy Potts lead the way out of the water, but he had some company in the form of Chile's Felipe Van De Wyngard, who ended up leading off the bike by 42 to 84 seconds on a group that included Raul Tejada (GUA), Mario De Elias (ARG), Viennot, Tim Rea (AUS), Potts and TJ Tollakson (USA).

Viennot ran his way through the field to take the win, with Potts coming across the line 29 seconds behind the Frenchman for second. Rounding out the podium was De Elias.

Piampiano surges on the bike

After trailing swim leader Kelsey Withrow (USA) by 3:29 after the swim, Piampiano moved through the field to join Canadian Kirsty Jahn at the front. The Canadian would lead into T2, but Piampiano controlled the run with a 1:23:14 run, which ended up being 46-seconds faster than Jahn, who came across the line in second. Later, though, the results were amended and Jahn was disqualified, moving Withrow to the runner-up position with Romina Palacio rounding out the podium.
