Marino Vanhoenacker might be 41, but he's still winning Ironman races - he topped a class field at Ironman Australia for his 17th Ironman win. Laura Siddall continued her impressive 2018 race season with a successful defense of her 2017 Australia title, taking her second Ironman title of 2018 after her New Zealand win in March.

Vanhoenacker runs to the title

Mark Bowstead (AUS) led the way out of the water and off the bike, but Vanhoenacker was just a few seconds behind. The Belgian was 1:37 down at the end of the ride, but quickly moved to the front of the race and never looked back to add another Ironman title to his stacked resume. Luke McKenzie was third off the bike over five minutes behind his countryman, but managed to get past Bowstead for the second spot on the podium.

American Kelsey Withrow led the women out of the water with a lead of almost four minutes on Siddall, but by halfway through the ride Siddall had put her stamp on the race and was 4:28 up on the American. By the end of the ride Siddall was almost 16 minutes ahead of the rest of the women, with Els Visser (NED) second into T2, followed by Melanie Burke (AUS).

Siddall continued her dominance of the day and was almost 24 minutes in front across the line. Burke and Withrow ran their way to the second and third spots on the podium, leaving Visser in fourth.
