Jeanni Seymour and Matt Trautman put South Africa on the top of the podium in Buffalo City, taking Ironman 70.3 South Africa thanks to solid swim/ bike legs and then hanging tough through the run.

Seymour leads from the gun

Seymour led the swim by 1:33 over Judith Vaquera from Spain with Emma Pallant (GBR) almost three minutes back in third. Seymour then used the day's fastest bike split (2:36:21) to lead the way into T2, with Pallant almost three minutes down, having passed Vaquera, who was almost seven-minutes behind starting the run. Seymour was never threatened by the fast-running Pallant as she cruised through the run in 1:24:44 to finish in 4:32:23, just under two-minutes ahead of Pallant with Vaquera rounding out the podium 12-minutes behind the South African.

Trautman bikes to the win

Johann Ackrmann led the way out of the water with his 23:54 split, putting him a few seconds up on Rudolf Naude and 36 seconds up on a group that included Justin Metzler (USA), Evert Scheltinga (NED), Kevin Rundstadler (SUI) and Trautman. Trautman rode his way to the front thanks to a 2:20:42 bike split that got him into T2 ahead of of Kenneth Vandendriessche, who's 2:18 bike split moved him to second, just over a minute ahead of Scheltinga.

Vandendriessche, who is fresh off a win at the Lanzarote International Duathlon a few weeks ago, got himself to within 16 seconds of Trautman at 6 km of the run, but couldn't maintain the lead and would eventually finish almost two minutes behind Trautman. Scheltinga had a strong run to round out the podium.
