The Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt in July is setting up to be quite a day. There will be lots of hype around the battle of Kona champions on the men's side as defending Ironman world champion Patrick Lange and Jan Frodeno face off against each other. Now we get to add another big name to the field - Daniela Ryf has announced that she'll be starting the season off with Ironman 70.3 Rapperswil at home in Switzerland before heading to Frankfurt in July.
After last season I have enjoyed an extended break, but now pleased to announce my first two races for the season. Looking forward to racing IM 70.3 Rapperswil in June and IM Frankfurt in July. #IM703Switzerland#IMFrankfurtpic.twitter.com/y5ZD4ty9AP— Daniela Ryf (@danielaryf) April 6, 2018
Ryf will arrive as the prohibitive favorite for the race, as she does every time she steps up to the line, but there will be lots of interest in Anne Haug's full-distance debut in Frankfurt. Haug is on an impressive 70.3 run at present, having taking the first leg of the triple crown at Ironman 70.3 Dubai and winning in Oceanside on the weekend, too.
