It's official now! The pro start lists are out for this year's Ironman 70.3 World Championship and Javier Gomez and Daniela Ryf will each wear race number 1.

Two-time Ironman 70.3 World Champion Javier Gomez, last year's bronze medalist in South Africa, and four-time champion Daniela Ryf, who will be looking for a third straight title, will wear race number 1 at this year's championship in Nice.

The two will face some stiff competition as some of the best long-distance racers in the world will line up alongside the multiple world champs.

Ryf goes for three in a row

Ryf's fiercest competition is likely to come from the woman who has finished second behind her at the 2018 Ironman 70.3 and 2017 and 2018 Ironman World Championship events, Lucy Charles. The British star is hardly the only woman in the field who will enter with visions of a top finish - 2016 70.3 world champ Holly Lawrence has been racing up a storm over the half distance this year and Anne Haug, who was third behind Ryf and Charles both in South Africa and Kona. Haug, though, ripped through an 8:31 full-distance race in Copenhagen on the weekend, so she might still be recovering in Nice.

The entry list for the women reads like a who's who in the sport - names like Radka Kahlefeldt, Emma Pallant and Sarah Crowley are just a few of the women who could contend for the women's podium on the challenging Nice course.

No Frodeno, but still a stacked field

While Jan Frodeno has chosen to skip the Ironman 70.3 World Championship, there is still a stacked field on hand to ensure that Gomez will have lots of competition. Last year's runner up in South Africa, two-time Olympic gold medalist Alistair Brownlee, ran a frightening 1:07 half-marathon to finish behind Frodeno and ahead of Gomez. Sebastian Kienle has been racing extremely well this year and will no-doubt love the challenging Nice bike course. Two-time Kona champ Patrick Lange typically rounds into outstanding shape at this time of the year and would love to show the world he's ready for Kona after a tough day in Frankfurt.

As with the women's field, the men's race reads like a world championship event should - as you read through the list you come across contender after contender. Look for names like Rodolphe Von Berg, Pieter Heemeryck, Ben Kanute, Kristian Blummenfelt and many more to be at the front contending for the podium.
