Vicky Holland made her first ITU race in over nine months a good one as she returned to the ITU World Cup circuit with a big win in Cape Town, while Richard Murray thrilled the home-country crowd with a successful defense of his title.

British duo dominates

Hungary's Zsanett Bragmeyer and Portugal's Melanie Santos were first ouf of the water, but Great Britain's Vicky Holland and Non Stanford were close enough to make the lead pack of seven that worked together on the bike to come off over 40 seconds up heading into the 5 km run. In her first race since an injury sidelined her for much of 2017, Holland easily stayed clear on the run for the win, with Stanford making it a UK one-two finish. Swim leader Bragmeyer rounded out the podium.

Murray and Schoeman repeat

Richard Murray (RSA) was first out of the water, but then struggled to get his wetsuit off and saw his countryman Henri Schoeman lead the way onto the bike. An 11-strong lead group led the way into T2 with Murray quickly taking control on the run and kicking his way to a repeat win. As he did last year Schoeman finished second, with Austrian Lukas Pertl hanging on to his heels for the final spot on the podium.
