After dealing with injuries for almost two years Eimear Mullan (IRE) made the folks in Thanyapura, the training camp where she trains in Thailand, proud with a big win at Ironman 70.3 Xiamen.

Mullan ran her way to the win after trailing Haley Chura (USA) out of the water by about a minute and then finding herself coming into T2 with a group that was led by Switzerland's Imogen Simmonds and included Chura and Sarah Cometo (USA). Mullan easily handled the rest of the women on the run, posting a 1:20 half-marathon split that was more than enough for the win. Chura ran her way in for second, while Simmonds rounded out the podium.

Betten runs to the win

Australia's Sam Betten was the best of the bunch on the run to take the men's title in an exciting sprint finish over Justin Metzler (USA).

Rudolf Naude (RSA) led the lead group out of the water but had lots of company. Out on the bike the bunch stayed together, but Germany's Johannes Moldan surged away from the rest of the group to enjoy a four-minute lead on Justin Metzler, Jonathan Shearon (USA) and Betten into T2. Out on the run, though, the race would turn into the Metzler and Betten show as the two ended up sprinting for the win, with the Australian opening up a 15-second gap by the line.

Here's what Metzler had to say of his second sprint finish of 2017 via Instagram:

bigmetztri: Quite the war with this man, @sambetten today at #im703xiamen ?. 2nd for me in the end (another sprint ?). A nice cherry? on top of what has already been a great ‘17 racing season. If anyone needs me, I’ll be out back doing 100m reps on the track ?.

Shearon rounded out the podium.
