Ironman announces new event in California, Ironman 70.3 Indian Wells-La Quinta

Ironman has announced a new Southern-California race that will take place on the same weekend as Challenge's new Daytona event.

You had to know that Ironman wouldn't make it easy for Challenge to make any sort of North American return. Today the company announced a new event on the same weekend as the recently announced Challenge Daytona race, albeit across the country in Southern California.

Ironman 70.3 Indian Wells-La Quinta will tke place on Sunday, December 9 (compared to the December 8 date for the Daytona event) and will be co-hosted by the cities of Indian Wells and La Quinta.

The race will begin with a 1.9 km swim in Lake Cahulla. The flat (it's actually below sea level) 90 km one-loop bike course takes place on rural roads and takes in scenic views of the Santa Rosa mountains. The two-loop run course takes in the famous Indian Wells Tennis Gardens, home of the BNP Paribas ATP World Tour Masters Tournamet, and the Indian Wells Golf Resort.

The race will offer 30 qualifying slots for the 2019 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France and a US$25,000 pro prize purse.
