After discontinuing Ironman 70.3 Syracuse this year, Ironman was down to two events in New York state - Ironman and Ironman 70.3 Lake Placid. That was good news for other New York races like the Toughman Championship near New York City and the long-running Tupper Lake Tinman event in the north part of the state, but that relief will be short lived.

Today Ironman announced that they will have a third race in New York next year after acquiring the Musselman Triathlon, an event in Geneva, New York (an hours drive from Syracuse) that's been running since 2003.

The race features single-loop courses with a swim in Seneca Lake followed by a rolling bike course along Seneca and Cayuga lakes. The run follows a waterfront path along Seneca Lake and winds through Geneva and the campuses of Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

In addition to New York's large triathlon population the event will no-doubt attract lots of Canadians - it's about a three and a half hour drive from Toronto, four hour drive from Ottawa and a five hour drive from Montreal.
