As has become the norm whenever he enters a race, Jan Frodeno highlights the field at this weekend's Ironman 70.3 Barcelona. Frodeno splits his time between South Africa, Australia and Girona, Spain, so he considers the event in Barcelona to be a "home race."
“It marks the ‘let’s get serious’ point in my calendar, as after this it’s back to full-distance training,” says Frodeno, who will go after the fastest official Ironman time at Ironman Austria. “It’s a really challenging course for me as there is a 10-kilometer climb in it. Not really my thing but luckily it’s followed by a very technical descent, which is exactly my thing!”
Frodeno will face some stiff competition on the weekend, including a hot Bertrand Billard (FRA), who won Ironman 70.3 Pays d'Aix last weekend and 2013 Ironman world champion Frederik Van Lierde (BEL), who was third in Pays d'Aix.
Emma Pallant (GBR) is likely the prerace favorite on the women's side - she'll take on Eva Wutti (AUT), Camilla Pedersen (DEN) and Tine Deckers (BEL).
