Frodeno and Watkinson great in Gdynia

There was no stopping Jan Frodeno as his "form test" led to a sizeable victory, while Amelia Rose Watkinson blasted clear of the field on the bike and never looked back to take the women's race.

The world champion over the 70.3 distance wanted to use the race in Gdynia as a form test - and it would appear that he passed that test just fine. First out of the water he remained at the front for the rest of the race. Kilometer after kilometer he increased his lead on the bike, which was 2:30 by the 60 km point. At that point his countrymen Maurice Clavel and Ruben Zepuntke had moved into second and third place and the order remained the same starting the run.

After a 2:02:01 bike split that beat the old course record by over five minutes, Frodeno continued to power away on the run. During the first lap he increased his lead over Clavel by more than a minute and, by the end of the race, Frodeno finished the event in the Polish resort town on the Baltic Sea in 3:39:36, 4:10 ahead of Clavel, who finished in 3:43:46. Third went to Miki Taagholt from Denmark, who completed the podium 6:52 back. Fourth, in his first middle-distance race was 24-year-old Bundesliga star Jan Stratmann.
