Jan Frodeno (GER) dominated another highly anticipated showdown while Laura Philipp (GER) was equally as impressive with a huge win at Ironman 70.3 Kraichgau.

Frodeno flies again

After a disappointing Ironman world championship race in Kona last October, the two-time world champ appears to be gearing up for a dramatic return to the Big Island with a series of dominating races. In April Frodeno beat last year's Kona runner-up, Lionel Sanders, at Ironman 70.3 Oceanside. A much anticipated duel with the defending world champ, Patrick Lange, ended with another big win - Frodeno led from start to finish to win by 6:30.

Frodeno came out of the water with training partner Nick Kastelein just a second behind, but from there on he was all by himself, riding and running away from the field to the impressive win. Lange managed to ride and run his way to the runner-up position, while Kastelein hung tough to round out the podium.

Philipp continues to fly

Last year's bronze medalist at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship, Laura Philipp, spent the winter working on her swimming and all that work seems to be paying off in spades as the German star came out of the water in fourth place (in the main chase group) and quickly put her stamp on the race. By the first time check at 21 km she had overtaken swim leader Anna-Lena Pohl (GER), making up her two-minute deficit and gaining an additional minute. By the end of the ride Philipp was over six minutes ahead of Daniela Saemmler and opened up even more of a gap by the end of the run. Saemmler remained in second while Yvonne Van Vlerken rounded out the podium.
