Last year she won the race by nine seconds, holding off Lucy Charles to thrill the German crowd with a monstrous win at one of the world's most prestigious long-distance races. While Charles had made it known that she'd be back in search of the win, defending champion, Daniela Bleymehl (known as Daniela Saemler last year) looked to focus on the Ironman European Championship in her hometown of Frankfurt this year.

Bleymehl was in the mix in Frankfurt off the bike, but had to pull out early in the run "due to a gatrointestinal virus" according to a press release from Challenge Roth. According to the release she's made a full recovery:

"My medical check up earlier this week sowed the virus has now fully gone," Bleymehl says. "I'm feeling really fit again and my fitness is as good as ever in recent weeks."

In winning Challenge Roth last year Bleymehl set a new German record of 8:43:42. Bleymehl's season so far has included another German championship at Challenge Heilbronn in May and a third place finish at the Challenge Championship in Samorin, Slovakia, a race won by Charles.
