There was no stopping Australian Sarah Crowley as she powered away from the field on the bike, while South Africa's Bradley Weiss, the 2017 Xterra world champion, showed he can be competitive on the roads as well as on the trails as he biked to the front and hung on for the win at Ironman 70.3 Taiwan.

Crowley bikes clear

New Zealand's Amelia Watkinson and Australian Sarah Crowley enjoyed a lead of about 30 seconds on Grace Thek coming out of the water, but that's as close as the women's race would ever get as Crowley rode away from the field and never looked back. By the end of the bike the Aussie was over four minutes ahead of Watkinson, with Els Visser another 90 seconds behind and Thek over eight-minutes behind the lead.

Crowley sed the day's fastest run split to stay well clear of the field for a solid win. Thek would run her way to second, while Visser managed to also get past Watkinson to round out the podium.

Weiss hangs tough for the win

Two-time Ironman 70.3 world champion Michael Raelert (GER) had a huge 90-second lead on the rest of the men out of the water, but was joined at about the 40 km point by Weiss, Australian Luke McKenzie and France's Cyril Viennot. Weiss would pull clear of the group, enjoying a lead of about a minute starting the run.

Three km into the half-marathon Viennot and Raelert had got the gap down to 24 seconds, but that's as close as they would get. Weiss steadily pulled clear of Viennot as Raelert faded dramatically and would eventually take sixth. Viennot finished second with McKenzie rounding out the podium.
