Matt Hanson had to pull out all the stops on the run to defend his title, while Haley Chura led from start to finish again to take the women's race at Ironman 70.3 Chattanooga.

Chura holds on for the win

Haley Chura started her day with an impressive swim that saw her finish with a faster split than the pro men. She started the run with a lead of over four-minutes on one of her main competitors, Linsey Corbin (USA), and almost seven minutes on Sarah Piampiano (USA). By the end of the bike she was just over two minutes ahead of Jen Annett (CAN), 4:28 up on Piampiano and a shade under five minutes ahead of Corbin. Chura held on through the run for a 1:58 win over Piampiono, with Corbin rounding out the podium.

Hanson hammers the run

A big group of men exited the water within a minute of each other, but it didn't take long for super-cyclist Andrew Starykowicz to pull clear on the bike. The American would hit T2 with a lead of just over a minute on countrymen Kennett Peterson, a former pro cyclist, and Andrew Talansky, with Hanson just over four minutes down starting the run.

Hanson, who blasted through a 2:36 marathon split to win Ironman Texas in April, continued his impressive running streak with a 1:11 split that netted him a second straight title in Coeur d'Alene. Peterson managed to also get passed Starykowicz on the run to take second.
