Chalenge Almere-Amsterdam hosted the European champs in 2014 and also hosted the championships in 1985, 1991, 1999 and 2006. Started in 1983, the event is one of the oldest triathlon races in the world.

It takes place 4.5 m below sea level “on land reclaimed from the Zuiderzee” according to a release sent out by Challenge Family and, thanks to course changes made in 2012, the start and finish takes place right in the city center, providing lots of excitement for athletes and fans alike.

More than 2.700 athletes participated in the 2016 edition of CHALLENGEALMERE-AMSTERDAM. Located just 20 minutes from Amsterdam more than 40,000 spectators line the 3.8m swim and flat 180 km bike and 42.2 km run courses.
