Fresh off a couple of big half-distance wins, two-time Olympic gold medalist Alistair Brownlee will compete at the inaugural Challenge Championship event.
“There is a good field assembled for the Championship so I am excited to race, especially as the venue looks amazing,” Brownlee says. “The bike course is relatively flat but the 20m draft rule will keep everyone honest and it should be a good race.”
Brownlee will take on some of his old ITU competitors in the form of Richard Murray (RSA) and Richard Varga (SVK). He’ll also be taking on two-time Ironman 70.3 world champion Sebastian Kienle (GER) and countryman Andreas Dreitz.
Brownlee won his first attempt at the half-distance, Challenge Gran Canaria, then followed that up with an impressive win at the Ironman 70.3 North American Championship in St. George, Utah, USA, beating Kienle at that event.
