Kristian Blummenfelt (NOR) turned out to have the biggest sprint at the end of three tough mini-triathlon races to take the Triple Mix and the first day of racing at the Super League Triathlon in Jersey. Blummenfelt outsprinted Richard Murray (RSA) to take the day, with Jonathan Brownlee (GBR) rounding out the podium.
Blummenfelt took the first swim (300 m)/ bike (5 km)/ run (2 km) leg of the Triple Mix event over Murray and Brownlee, Ten minutes after they finished that first leg the men were at it again, this time for a run/ bike/ swim race that saw the men head out onto the course in the order of their finish. Blummenfelt, Murray and Brownlee worked together on the bike to open up a huge gap on the rest of the field. This time Brownlee would lead the way with Murray and Blummenfelt close behind.
That set up the final leg that included a swim/ bike/ run. The three leaders would gain enough time to eliminate a lot of the field thanks to the 90 second rule and raced tactically through the bike and swim before blasting through the final run. Blummenfelt would eventually outduel Murray for the overall win with Brownlee finishing third.
