Alexander and Jerzyk tops in Liuzhou

Craig Alexander proved that age is just a number with a nice win that looked eerily similar to the way we used to see him dominate half-distance racing, while Agnieszka Jerzyk was untouchable in the women's race at Ironman 70.3 Liuzhou.

You have to imagine that his competition were just looking at each other saying "Are you kidding me?" as Craig Alexander floated away from them to take Ironman 70.3 Liuzhou last weekend. The three-time Kona champ might be 45, but, as his much younger competitors quickly realized, he's still got what it takes to win races.

Alexander followed the strategy that netted him countless 70.3 titles through the late 00s and early part of this decade - swam with the group, rode with the group, then dusted everyone on the run. His 1:13 split was almost two-minutes faster than eventual second-place finisher Ivan Kalishnikov (RUS), who is all of 28, for those who might have wondered. Germany's Paul Shuster rounded out the podium.

The always-classy Alexander described the day in a short Facebook post, acknowledging the beautiful course rather than his impressive performance:

"It is the wet season in China, so we got a drenching for the entire race but still a very unique course," he wrote. "We swam past several waterfalls and raced through the Ancient Town in the shadows of hilltop temples."

In the women's race Poland's Agnieszka Jerzyk had to chase American Kelsey Withrow after the swim, but used the day's fastest bike and run splits to easily outdistance the American by almost nine minutes. Laura Dennis rounded out the podium another five minutes back.
