50 women's slots added to 70.3 Durban

Ironman 70.3 Durban will offer an additional 50 qualifying slots for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Ironman's "Women for Tri" program hasn't had much exposure outside of the United States since it's inception in 2015, but the initiative has provided a huge boost to both Ironman 70.3 Durban and the upcoming Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa in September.

According to a story posted on the Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism website Ironman has, "as part of the Women for Tri initiative" announced that there will be an additional 50 female slots for the 70.3 worlds.

 “This is a great way for us to acknowledge the growing presence of women in our sport," says Keith Bowler, Ironman South Africa Managing Director. "We will also be supporting Women For Tri activities over the race weekend of the Standard Bank IRONMAN 70.3 Durban event. There is no doubt in my mind that those slots will all be gladly taken. Our South African woman are full of drive and passion for the sport.”

The 50 slots will be in addition to the 100 slots that are already up for grabs at the Ironman 70.3 Durban race, which takes place on June 3. According to the story allocation of the "additional slots will be done after the 100 standard age group slots have been allocated based on performance in each women's age group category."
