Can you imagine finishing an Ironman in 8:56:03 and not being fast enough to qualify for the big show in Hawaii this October? Welcome to Jan Bruns' life - a 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike and 42.195 km run in under nine hours, completing the swim in 49 minutes, averaging 36.8 km/ hour on the bike and running a 3:10 marathon. He missed a qualifying slot by 49 seconds in the men's 25 to 29 age category, finishing sixth in a category that had four qualifying slots.

The competition in all the age groups was frightening. All of the men who qualified in the 55 to 59 age group went under 10 hours. Even in men's 70 to 74 you had to break 12 hours - Holland's Hans van der Linden went 11:42:45 to take that slot.

Check out the times required to qualify for Kona in all the age groups last weekend in Frankfurt.
