Making it two-for-two in Taiwan

After winning Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay last week, Switzerland's Ruedi Wild won his second Ironman 70.3 race in a row by outlasting Tim O'Donnell on the run in Taitung. Wild, O'Donnell, Sven Riederer (SUI) and Michael Raelert (GER) broke away from the rest of the field on the bike, but Raelert would drop back, and eventually out of the race, due to cramps. Wild and O'Donnell were off the bike within seconds of each other and ran the initial part of the half-marathon together. Wild gradually pulled away from the American and, by 9 km, enjoyed a lead of 30 seconds. In the end Wild would come across the line almost three minutes up on O'Donnell, who was never threatened for the second spot. Riederer rounded out the top three, making it a one-three finish for Switzerland after the one-four finish the two enjoyed last week in the Philippines.

Riveros runs to the win

It was a battle of two former ITU stars as Chile's Barbara Riveros (fifth in Rio last year) and 2012 Olympian Radka Kahlefeldt (nee Vodickova), from the Czech Republic, swam and biked together. Kahlefeldt was four seconds quicker in the water, Riveros was four seconds faster on the bike, turning Ironman 70.3 into a foot race for the women's title. Riveros easily dominated the final leg, running almost four minutes faster than Kahlefeldt, who had taken the win a week earlier in Subic Bay, to take the Ironman 70.3 Taiwan title. Mariya Shorets blazed through the 21.1 km run to finish third.
