Frederik Van Lierde (BEL) sure likes competing in France. After taking his fourth Ironman Nice title in July, he took last weekend's Ironman 70.3 Vichy in impressive style, too. (He also won a standard-distance race in Les Sables d'Olonne in July, too, but who's counting ...) The 2013 Kona champ appears to be on track for another big day in Kona after besting last year's fifth place finisher in Kona, Andi Boecherer (GER).

The two were side by side out of the water, trailing swim leader Manuel Kung by 40 seconds, then ripped through the bike and hitting T2 virtually side by side and almost three-minutes up on the rest of the field. The German managed to stay ahead for the first 6 km of the run before Van Lierde put things away and ran to a decisive 3:24 win. Antony Costes kept the French crowd happy with his third place finish.

McCauley marvelous on the bike and run

Switzerland's Celine Shaerer was all by herself with a three-minute lead after the swim, but once the competitors were on dry land it quicly became a matter of when Jocelyn McCauley would move to the front. Schaerer was a few seconds up into T2 and managed to stay with the American through the first 6 km of the run before McCauley was finally able to break away and open a two-minute gap by the finish line. Maria Czesnik from Poland rounded out the podium.

Jocelyn McCauley was unstoppable on the bike and run as she takes the Ironman 70.3 Vichy title.
