Sanders too much on dry land

After coming out of the water over three minutes down, Canadian Lionel Sanders had moved to the front of the race by 45 km into the bike ride. Only Brazil's Igor Amorelli was able to stay close to the fastest man ever at an official Ironman (Sanders set the new standard of 7:44:29 at Ironman Arizona last year) off the bike - the two were over three minutes ahead of everyone else starting the run. Sanders would cruise through the half-marathon to take the win, while American Rodolphe Von Berg (who is a walking United Nations with a father from Belgium, was born in the US, lived in France until he was 19 and now lives in Boulder, Colorado) ran past Amorelli to take second.

Chura charges on the run

American Haley Chura led out of the water, only to see Great Britain's Kimberly Morrison ride away to a 6:23 lead into T2. Chura managed to close the gap 3:09 by the end of the first half of the run, before finally moving ahead over the final few kms to take the title by 47 seconds over Morrison. Brazil's Ariane Monticeli was never a threat for the win, but stayed in third place for much of the day to round out the podium.
