Nice has been picked to hold the 2019 Ironman 70.3 World Championship. The event is slated to take place on September 7 and 8. It will be the second time an Ironman world championship event will take place in Europe.

Ironman began a rotating venue format for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in 2014 when the event took place in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada. The following year it was held in Zell am See-Kaprun, Austria. Last year the race took place on Australia's Sunshine Coast.

Nice has hosted an Ironman event since 2005 and the race remains one of the most popular on the Ironman circuit. Like the full-distance race the 70.3 world championship will consist of a swim in the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, a bike course up into the spectacular mountains and a run along Nice's historic Promenade des Anglais.

A new Ironman 70.3 race will take place in Nice on Sept. 16, 2018 as a lead up to the world championship. The event will continue in 2020 as part of the Ironman 70.3 European Tour.

This year's 70.3 world championship takes place in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. The 2018 event will be held in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa.
