Lionel Sanders proved once again that, when it comes to Ironman 70.3 racing, he remains Canada's man to beat, while Holly Lawrence (GBR) continued her 70.3 winning streak that began in Mont-Tremblant a year ago when she took her first Ironman title.

Lawrence from start to finish

As we're used to seeing when Lawrence wins a race, the former Wales ITU competitor was first out of the water in Tremblant, but she had some company in the form of American Olympian Sarah True (nee Groff), who trailed by one second after the swim, with another American, Jennifer Spieldenner just a few more seconds back.

Once on the bike, though, there was no touching Lawrence, who blasted away from True and the rest of the women's field thanks to a 2:19:30 bike split. Lawrence then held strong through the run to defend her title. Canadian Magali Tisseyre would ride her way past True into T2 (as did Spieldenner), but True would battle back on the run to take second. Tisseyre held on for third in her hometown race.

Sanders socks it to the field on the bike

Can anyone else remember when Lionel Sanders was dead last out of the water (in the pro race) at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Mont-Tremblant? That day he was 38th in the pro division and about 4:30 behind the leaders. That day he biked and ran his way to fourth.

Today, in a race that featured many of Canada's top 70.3 competitors, Sanders' improved swimming was on show as he was only 2:30 behind countryman Taylor Reid out of the water, before putting the race completely out of doubt after an incredible 2:01:53 bike split that was roughly eight-minutes faster than the men chasing behind. Reid and countryman Jackson Laundry were about 5:30 down into T2 but were never a threat to stopping Sanders from another win in Mont-Tremblant.

Reid would run his way to the runner-up spot, while Cody Beals (CAN) ran his way passed Laundry to round out the podium.
