Holly Lawrence (GBR) continued her winning ways in Santa Rosa today, holding off a late charge from Sarah Piampiano on the run to take another 70.3 win. Sam Appleton (AUS) was every bit as impressive as he charged away on the bike and held on during the run to take the men's race over a stacked field.

Appleton from start to finish

Appleton led the way out of the water and then pulled away from some of the best in the sport to take a dominating lead into T2. Appleton's 2:03:26 bike split was more than enough to separate himself from countryman Joe Gambles (2:06:39) and Americans Tim O'Donnell (2:11:21) and Andy Potts (2:11:25). A bunch of 74-minute runs put Appleton, Gambles and O'Donnell on the podium, leaving Potts to fourth.

Lawrence wins again

Holly Lawrence isn't just the defending Ironman 70.3 world champion, she's arguably the hottest half-distance racer on the planet right now. After a big win last weekend at the Ironman 70.3 North American Championship in St. George, Lawrence followed up with another impressive win over a tough field in Santa Rosa.

After trailing Lawrence by over six minutes out of the water, Sarah Piampiano (USA) lost another three plus minutes to the Brit on the bike. She would make up about six minutes of the deficit on the run, but it wasn't nearly enough as Lawrence hung tough for the win.

Kaisa Lehtonen (FIN) and Carrie Lester (AUS) had quite a battle for the final podium position which, in the end, went to Lehtonen.
