After the swim was cancelled due to cold water temperatures forcing organizers to turn the race into a bike/ run time trial, Australia's Sam Appleton did the unthinkable at Ironman 70.3 Racine, outriding American uber-cyclist Andy Starykowicz by over a minute and then holding on in the run to take the men's title. Appleton led an Aussie sweep of the podium. Defending Ironman 70.3 world champion Tim Reed was second while Joe Gambles rounded out the podium. Both Reed and Gambles were able to outrun Starykowicz to move to the podium.

Holly Lawrence (GBR) continued her domination of 70.3 racing with another win, dominating on the bike and leading American Jodie Robertson by over four minutes into transition. Robertson was able to claw back all but a minute of the deficit on the run, but it wasn't enough to stop Lawrence from taking another 70.3 title - Lawrence hasn't lost a 70.3 race in over a year now.
