While Alicia Kaye might race as an American now, Canadians are proud to remember that before she married US Olympian Jarrod Shoemaker she represented the country of her birth. So while it wasn't quite a Canadian sweep of the podium in San Juan today, coupled with Taylor Reid's big win and Stephanie Roy's runner-up finish, it was a pretty good day for Canada.

Kaye rides to the win

Kaye exited the water just a few seconds behind race-favorite and two-time champion Helle Frederiksen and then put on a cycling clinic, riding over four-minutes faster than the rest of the chasing pro women with her 2:17:57 split. She was able to hold off a late charge by Roy, who's 1:22:59 run split got her past Frederiksen towards the end of the run and put her just 29 seconds behind Kaye at the finish line. Frederiksen would cross the line in third, just 86 seconds behind Kaye.

Reid attacks on dry land

Reid might have trailed American super-swimmers Ben Kanute and Andy Potts out of the water by a couple of minutes, but made up that deficit with the day's third-fastest bike, which put him into T2 just a few seconds behind Aussie Paul Ambrose. Reid blasted out of transition in front and never looked back, posting the days fastest run split to take his third, and possibly biggest, 70.3 title. Potts pipped Kanute to the line for second by just 10 seconds.
