Olympic silver medalist Jonathan Brownlee (GBR) has had to pull out of the first Super League Triathlon event on Hamilton Island in Australia due to a hip injury.

"The doctors confirmed my hip injury, which is really disappointing as I was in full swing preparing for the race and the hot conditions,” Jonathan said in a press release.

His brother Alistair remains in the field, though, leaving the Brownlee name aptly represented at the inaugural event.

“Super League Triathlon is really exciting to me,” Alistair said in a press release. “It’s racing across a number of different days, a number of different formats, in different ways, which should suit a really hard style of racing.”

The inaugural Super League Triathlon series includes three different race formats and will take place between March 17 to 19th.
