The expansion of the sport into South America continues as Ironman has announced another event in Chile. Ironman 70.3 Coquimbo is set for October 21.
Chile's other Ironman event in Pucon is renowned for its stunning scenery - it takes place in the southern part of the country. Coquimbo, located north of Santiago, has the country's second largest port and is close to the Elqui Valley in the Andes.
The two-loop swim takes place "against the backdrop of the Port of Coquimbo." The bike follows the coastline and the run goes through the city's coastal promenade.
There will be $15,000 prize money at the race along with 30 qualifying slots for the 2018 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa.
