Jodie Cunnama (nee. Swallow) took her seventh title at Ironman 70.3 South Africa on the weekend, blasting out to a three-minute lead out of the water and adding another one on the bike before cruising to the title. Susie Cheetham (GBR) managed to close some of the gap to finish second.

"I am glad to come away with number seven at Ironman South Africa after a drama-free day," Cunnama said after her win. "James (Cunnama, her husband) was second and was waiting for me in the finish line with a big grin. Well done to Susie Cheetham and Jerzyk Agnieszka for keeping me honest all day. I felt such pressure going into this race because it is so early in the season and anything other than a win is going to be a disappointment for me. It's difficult - but I guess nothing worth doing is easy."

Guillaume bikes away

Romain Guillaume (FRA) used a solid swim (fifth) followed by a stellar bike to ride himself clear of the rest of the field to come off the bike with a 2:35 gap as he entered T2. He then managed to hold off James Cunnama (RSA) to take the title.

"I am very satisfied with my performance today," Guillaume said. "I'm really happy with the fact that my training approach and all the efforts over the past months are starting to pay off. This victory gives a lot of satisfaction and enables me to work with a lot of confidence towards my first big goal of this season: Ironman Lanzarote. Today all three disciplines went well. I gave my all on the bike without thinking of the run. On the run I felt good, too, and was able to control and consolidate my lead. This win is a fantastic boost for the upcoming season."
