A stellar pro field was on hand in Liuzhou, not to mention a swath of top age group competitors, too, who were after one of the 30 Ironman World Championship slots up for grabs at this first-time race in China.

Seymour runs her way to the win

Jeanni Seymour, a South African who makes her home in Boulder, Colorado these days, managed to close a four-minute gap off the bike to catch Radka Kahlefeldt (CZE) in the closing few kms of the run to take the women's race. Kahlefeldt and swim leader Haley Chura had ridden away from the rest of the field to lead into T2, but they weren't able to hold off the fast-running Seymour.

Former pro Sian Welch was one of those age-groupers who made the trip to China - she took the women's 50 to 54 category.

Don dominates the bike

2004 Olympian and former ITU world champ Tim Don led from start to finish to take the men's race. His incredible 2:00:14 bike split left him about four-minutes up on American Jesse Thomas. Don would lose just over a minute of that buffer on the run, but was never really challenged as he took the men's title. Thomas was well ahead of third place finisher Patrick Evoe (USA).
