Daniela Ryf returns to racing after a back injury at one of her favorite races: Ironman 70.3 Rapperswil.

Did we know Daniela Ryf has had a back injury for the past few months? We learned of the injury today from a press release sent out by her Bahrain Endurance 13 team and it explains her uncharacteristic run at Challenge Gran Canaria in April, just 20 days after she took the Ironman African Championship in South Africa.
Ryf has won Rapperswil the last three years in a row.
“So I want to participate even when I’m not at my best," she says. "I want to support those that have supported me. I’ve been injured the last three months and happy things are finally getting better. I’ve been training at altitude in St. Moritz for a week now.”
Even though she's coming off the injury, one would be crazy to bet against the two-time Ironman world champ on the weekend, especially on the course she loves so much.
Next month Ryf plans to go after Chrissie Wellington's world best time of 8:1*;13 set in Roth in 2011 as Ryf looks to defend her Challenge Roth title.
