After what was widely seen as a successful debut, Challenge has announced that "The Championship" will return to the X-Bionic Sphere in Samorin, Slovakia for the next three years. The 2018 race will take place on June 2nd and 3rd.

A top pro field was on hand to compete at this years event, which saw a heated battle between Germany's Sebastian Kienle and Canadian Lionel Sanders that saw the pair do almost the entire bike together and then run stride for stride for 16 km before Sanders broke away to take the title. Lucy Charles won a dramatic women's race that saw three lead changes in the final few kilometers.

“Following my battle with Sebastian Kienle on the run, my experience at The Championship 2017 was unreal and unmatched,” Sanders says. “I've said it before and I'll say it again; everything in the lead up and during The Championship 2017 - such as the 20m drafting rule - made it a good and fair race. Challenge Family and the X-Bionic Sphere made us all feel very welcome and I can't wait to return next year for another head-to-head finish with Sebastian."

In addition to the half-distance Championship race on June 3rd a number of "side events' geared towards friends and families will be included in the schedule on June 2.
