SRAM might have only have been on 15% of the bikes in Kona, but the company has a number of the world's top athletes using their components.

With a roster that includes the defending Ironman world champion, the Olympic gold and silver medalists and both the men’s and women’s runner-up finishers from the Big Island last year, SRAM’s global pro triathlon roster for 2017 is stacked.

The majority of the athletes will be riding SRAM’s Red eTap electronic shifting, but a few athletes will also use the company’s 1x system that features just one chainring.

Frodeno leads the men’s roster

Jan Frodeno enjoyed a stellar year riding SRAM’s Red eTap components on his Canyon bike, setting a new world-best time in Roth and defending his world title in Kona – he’ll be aiming for another stellar year using eTap again in 2017. Alistair Brownlee was on eTap components, too, as he took his second Olympic gold medal – he’ll be on the same components in 2017 as he moves up to long-distance racing. His brother, Jonathan, will also ride eTap as he begins the four-year cycle leading to the 2020 games in Tokyo.

Sebastian Kienle took the prestigious Ironman European title in Frankfurt last year and was the runner-up in Kona – he’ll no-doubt continue to post fast bike splits on his Red eTap-specced Scott bike. Countryman Andi Boecherer is hoping to improve on his fifth-place Kona finish with his Cube with it's Red eTap components, too.

Carfrae highlights women’s list

Three-time Kona champ Mirinda Carfrae will also use Red eTap components on her Felt in 2017 as she goes after another world title. Fellow Aussie Melissa Hauschildt, a two-time Ironman 70.3 world champion who has taken the Ironman regional championships in both Melbourne and Frankfurt, will also ride eTap as she continues her quest for a big day in Kona. American Olympian Katie Zaferes will compete at both short- and long-distance races on SRAM components, using both the eTap and Force 1x systems.
